Statement & Counter statement
Experimental Jetsets book Statement & Counter statement includes a collection of almost all the interviews published and online featuring the studio. Therefore this book gives a amazing insight into there principles and ideas. Considered modernist in there practice Jetset are unlike any other studio in the world.
In the book they explain that if possible they would not use any photography in there work, obviously this is very difficult to carry out in real live but gives an idea of how much they value copy in there work being at the forefront. They explain that concrete poetry has been very influential on there practice along with the late modernist work of people like Wim Crouwel.
They also explain in the book how strongly they feel about small studios and how large clients can often opt for large studios and that small studios should be more trusted. From how they speak about their group dynamic I personally feel working for a small studio would be more engaging and there would be more contact between designers.
They also are very passionate about the idea of not working for advertising agencies EVER! This is another part of my practice I feel passionate about but maybe not as much as Experimental Jetset.
More than the work on show the ideas and theories of Experimental Jetset is what has inspired my practice, as designers it is important to be vocal about what you believe in and stand up for, how this influences they way they work is very important.
The idea of keeping a running blog of every project that is undertook gives the clients and other designers an insight into every aspect of your projects that could be overlooked if just looking at the final resolution.
