Matt Willey Offset
This Offset talk by Matt Willey gives an insight into his practice they way he works and how he got to were he is today. The editorial work on show was completely top class, the use of expressive, type large and small has become iconic to Matt's work. He explained how he felt he had been lucky but this was just him being humble as every job he seemed to take on the magazine (in the normal case) was totally redesigned in a positive way and went onto amazing success.
The work on Zembla magazine in particular was totally innovative, the video showing the different experiments for covers and the overall style of the magazine was so in depth and showed how far experimentation can co in print design, each new cover was as so different and effected the overall communication of the magazine. The level of further experimentation shown shows the importance of really integrating each project.
In terms of use of typography Matt is one of the most inspiring in the publishing industry and shows a very strong use of expressive type that also fits the theme.
